FN SCAR 17 .308 Winchester Custom Barrel
This FN SCAR 17 barrel is chambered in .308 Winchester. Pick your barrel steel, length, muzzle finish, fluting, and Cerakote color below.
Why .308 Winchester?
.308 Winchester has been around for decades, and one of its biggest practical advantages is how many types of factory ammunition are available. You’ll find everything from ordinary range ammunition to specialized match loads. It’s a familiar .30-caliber cartridge with a long track record.
The factory SCAR 17 is commonly associated with 7.62×51 NATO. That cartridge and .308 Winchester are closely related, but they aren’t identical specifications. Many SCAR 17 configurations permit both. With a custom barrel, check the barrel markings and FN or Deadshot guidance for the ammunition approved in your particular rifle.
Customize your FN SCAR 17 barrel
Here’s what you can choose for this barrel:
- Barrel steel and twist: Choose chrome-moly (CM) 1:10, Green Mountain stainless steel 1:10, or Shaw stainless steel 1:10.
- Barrel length: 10.5 to 19 inches.
- Muzzle: Target crown or 5/8×24 threads.
- Fluting: Choose six-groove, spiral, diamond, or none for a smooth barrel. Some profiles limit fluting choices.
- Cerakote: Pick a finish color from the swatches shown on the page.
- Gas block and barrel extension: Choose new components or tell us which complete assembly you’re sending in. The guide below explains the difference.
Before You Order
- Check your rifle: This barrel is for the FN SCAR 17 in .308 Winchester.
- Double-check your choices: Steel, length, muzzle finish, fluting, and Cerakote. This is a custom-made order.
- Choose your assembly option: Let us know whether you want new components or plan to send in an existing Deadshot or FN assembly. The choices are explained below.
Barrel Options Explained
CM and SS: CM is chrome-moly steel, which needs protection against rust. SS is stainless steel. It resists corrosion better, but still needs care.
1:10 twist: The rifling makes one full turn every 10 inches. That’s the rifling twist, not the barrel length.
Target crown or muzzle threads: The target crown is an unthreaded muzzle finish. The 5/8×24 choice has external threads.
Fluting: Grooves on the outside of the barrel. Select None for a smooth barrel.
Cerakote: A colored protective coating. Pick from the colors offered above.
What Do the Gas Block and Barrel Extension Do?
Gas block: The gas block is part of the SCAR’s piston operating system. It directs a portion of the gas from a fired round into that system, while the gas regulator controls how the gas is managed.
Barrel extension: This is the steel component at the rear of the barrel where the bolt locks into place. It’s an important part of the completed barrel assembly, not just a mounting piece.
What’s Different About Deadshot’s Gas Block?
The traditional FN SCAR 17 gas block has a folding front sight built into it. Our design does away with that integrated sight for a cleaner, sleeker look. That leaves you free to choose your own sight setup without working around the factory front sight.
Our gas block works with the SCAR’s adjustable gas regulation, just like the FN system. We have tested our design with a variety of suppressors, and it’s designed for both suppressed and unsuppressed use. Specific setups can vary, so if you have questions about your suppressor or handguard, reach out to us before ordering.
Gas Block and Barrel Extension: Which Option Do I Choose?
Choose whichever one fits your situation:
- Build with new components: We supply a new gas block and barrel extension. You don’t need to send us an assembly.
- Submit your Deadshot Barrels assembly: Already have one of our SCAR barrel assemblies? Send it to us intact so we can evaluate and reuse its components. There’s no extra component charge for this choice.
- Submit your FN barrel assembly: Send your factory FN barrel assembly intact so we can evaluate and reuse its components. The additional fee is shown in the dropdown.
Sending an assembly? Include your invoice number and follow the shipping instructions in the order-form acknowledgment. Leave the parts assembled.
What Happens After You Order?
- We use the options you selected. If you need to correct anything, contact us as soon as possible.
