AR-15 .223 Wylde Custom Barrel
We make this AR-15 barrel in .223 Wylde. Take a look at the listed steel, twist, barrel length, gas-system and finish choices for this product.
Why .223 Wylde?
.223 Wylde is the name of the chamber, not a separate ammunition type. It’s designed to accommodate both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO ammunition when used in an appropriately configured firearm.
That’s useful for customers who want one chambering intended for those two common cartridges. It’s still important to follow the ammunition and barrel markings; the chamber designation doesn’t promise a particular accuracy result.
Customize Your AR-15 Barrel
- Barrel material and twist: Chrome-moly 1:7 or stainless steel 1:7, 1:8 or 1:9.
- Length and muzzle: Choose among the listed lengths, crowns and muzzle finishes.
- Gas system: Review the gas-system lengths and optional gas tubes displayed for the selected barrel.
- Profile and gas block: Check the barrel profile, gas-block diameter and any optional fixed or adjustable gas blocks.
- Finish: Fluting, Cerakote and other finish choices depend on the configuration.
- Related components: Review any matching-bolt or customer-supplied part selections. Don’t assume every optional component is included.
Before You Order
- Confirm your rifle: This product is for an AR-15-pattern configuration chambered in .223 Wylde. Verify any related receiver, bolt and other component requirements.
- Check ammunition: Use the cartridge marked for the barrel’s chamber, not a different cartridge with a similar name.
- Review every selection: This is a made-to-order barrel. Check the options and separately selected components before checkout.
Barrel Options Explained
CM and SS: CM means chrome-moly steel, which needs corrosion protection. SS is stainless steel, which resists corrosion better but still needs normal maintenance. The rifling twist and steel combinations are listed with the product choices.
Twist rate: A marking such as 1:7 means one complete turn of the rifling every seven inches; it isn’t a barrel-length measurement.
Gas-system length: The selections include pistol-length (about 4 inches), carbine-length (about 7 inches), mid-length (about 9 inches), and rifle-length (about 12 inches). These are nominal system lengths, not overall barrel lengths or the exact dimensions of the gas tube.
What is a gas tube? In a conventional AR gas system, the gas block routes gas from the barrel through a small tube toward the action. The gas tube is separate from both the barrel and the block. Review the Add Gas Tube? option if you need one included where offered; its type corresponds to the gas-system layout.
Barrel profile: The choices include Light, SOCOM and HBAR profiles. They describe the exterior contour and amount of material in the barrel. A lighter contour generally weighs less than a heavier one.
Gas block and mounting diameter: The .750 and .875-inch gas-block sizes refer to the barrel’s outside diameter where the block fits, not the bullet caliber. A block can be fixed or adjustable, depending on the product choices. If you already have your own suitable gas block, look for the None selection where offered. Diameter alone doesn’t guarantee compatibility with the entire system.
Muzzle treatments: A target crown is an unthreaded muzzle finish. This barrel offers 1/2×28 and 5/8×24 threads. Magna Port is a gas-venting treatment near the muzzle, intended to help limit muzzle rise; it isn’t a screw-on device. Gill Cut is a specialty gill-style muzzle cut. Ask us for details of the current pattern rather than assuming it functions the same as porting or threads.
Combination notes: Some muzzle finishes cannot be selected with particular fluting styles. Follow the selections shown for the chosen profile.
Barrel extension: The steel part at the rear of the barrel contains the locking surfaces for the bolt. It’s different from the gas block.
Fluting and finishes: Fluting refers to grooves cut into the exterior of the barrel. Cerakote and other finishes affect appearance and surface protection.

Common Questions About This Barrel

No. .223 Wylde describes the chamber, which is designed for .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO ammunition. Follow the barrel and ammunition markings.

I just received my 18″ SS 1:8 Bull barrel with rifle length gas port in Tungsten Cerakote. Absolutely beautiful work! The M4 feed ramps line up perfectly with my Aero Precision M4E1 Upper. The barrel extension is tight fit. My barrel was finished and shipped earlier than expected. Every time I’ve contacted them, I’ve received a reply within a day, usually quicker. This was definitely money well spent, and I will be recommending DeadShot Barrels to anyone looking to build an AR or upgrade an existing rifle!

Excellent Accuracy – This was my first deadshot barrel, 16″ SS ,bullbarrel .936.
I used a scope that was zeroed on a diff AR, so I wan’t that far off for the first 5 shots – less than .75″ using my reloads hornady 75gr bthp on top CFE223.
I was following break-in procedure outlined by deadshot – basically the first 30 rounds – clean every 5. Then for the next 70, you clean every 10.
The groups got tighter and tighter. By the end of the day – after 100+ rounds, it was stacking less than 0.5″.
Love this barrel, it came w/ 1 pre-dimpled directly opposite gas hole. Will order more barrels in the future
