AR-15 .204 Ruger Custom Barrel

We make this AR-15 barrel chambered in .204 Ruger. Here’s what the cartridge means and what to check before ordering a custom barrel.

Why .204 Ruger?

.204 Ruger is a small-caliber centerfire cartridge well known in varmint shooting. It is often discussed for its high velocity and relatively flat trajectory with appropriate factory ammunition.

Although the number looks similar, .204 Ruger is not .223 Remington. They have different chambers and ammunition. The rifle’s complete configuration still matters.

Customize Your AR-15 Barrel

  • Material and twist: Review the barrel steel and rifling twist choices for this chambering.
  • Length and muzzle: The available lengths and muzzle finishes depend on the product options.
  • Gas system: Check the offered gas-system lengths, gas-tube and gas-block options.
  • Profile and finish: Review the barrel profile, gas-block diameter, fluting and other finishing selections.
  • Related parts: Look for any matching-bolt or customer-supplied component requirements.

Before You Order

  • Confirm the chambering: Order for .204 Ruger, not another cartridge with a similar name.
  • Verify the rifle: Confirm your receiver, bolt and other relevant components are appropriate for this chambering.
  • Check your choices: Each barrel is made to the specifications on your order. Make sure the selected options and related parts are correct.

Barrel Options Explained

CM and SS: CM means chrome-moly steel, which needs corrosion protection. SS is stainless steel, which resists corrosion better but still needs normal maintenance. The rifling twist and steel combinations are listed with the product choices.

Twist rate: A marking such as 1:7 means one complete turn of the rifling every seven inches; it isn’t a barrel-length measurement.

Gas-system length: Pistol, carbine, mid-length, rifle and magnum name different nominal gas-system layouts. The specific options depend on the product.

What is a gas tube? In a conventional AR gas system, the gas block routes gas from the barrel through a small tube toward the action. The gas tube is separate from both the barrel and the block. Review the Add Gas Tube? option if you need one included where offered; its type corresponds to the gas-system layout.

Barrel profile: Light, SOCOM, HBAR and Bull are common names for outside barrel contours. The profile describes barrel thickness and material distribution, which affect the weight.

Gas block and mounting diameter: Measurements such as .750 and .875 identify the outside diameter of the barrel where a gas block fits, not the caliber. A block can be fixed or adjustable, depending on the product choices. If you already have your own suitable gas block, look for the None selection where offered. Diameter alone doesn’t guarantee compatibility with the entire system.

Muzzle treatments: A target crown is an unthreaded muzzle finish. Threaded muzzles have a defined thread size and pitch. Magna Port is a muzzle-porting style, while Gill Cut refers to a specialty cut pattern. Ask us to confirm which finishes apply to the barrel you are considering.

Barrel extension: The steel part at the rear of the barrel contains the locking surfaces for the bolt. It’s different from the gas block.

Fluting and finishes: Fluting refers to grooves cut into the exterior of the barrel. Cerakote and other finishes affect appearance and surface protection.

What Happens After You Order?

We use the specifications on your order to make the barrel. Estimated production time is 3–8 weeks, not a guaranteed delivery date. Contact us with your order number if you need to correct an order or check on progress.

Common Questions About This Barrel

Is .204 Ruger the same ammunition as .223 Remington?

No. They’re separate cartridges, and the ammunition cannot be treated as interchangeable.

How does twist rate differ from barrel length?

Twist rate is how far the rifling travels for one complete turn. Barrel length is the overall length of the barrel, and it’s chosen separately.

What if I need to change my custom order?

1 review for AR-15 – .204 RUGER

  1. Matthew Merritt (verified owner) –

Got my 204 barrel a few weeks ago, got SS light profile 18 inch barrel with rifle gas. Set it up with a random adjustable gas block and old style rifle handguard. Followed the break in and didn’t try any accuracy when breaking in (used my super safe to make it go a little faster) got done with the break in and just got around accuracy testing with it and it is great. Started with just horndary superformance 32gr and the first group had one flyer then the rest stacked great. I did 5 shot groups 2 with our suppressor and 2 with (M4 2000 can and the three prong 51t flash hider) with little to no shift. Awesome performance and a good price. It did take the full 6 weeks but I am definitely going to buy more barrels from yall
