AR-15 .50 Beowulf Custom Barrel
We make this AR-15 barrel chambered in .50 Beowulf. Here’s what the cartridge means and what to check before ordering a custom barrel.
Why .50 Beowulf?
.50 Beowulf is a large-bore cartridge developed for compatible AR-style rifles. It takes a very different approach from common small-bore AR-15 ammunition.
The cartridge isn’t interchangeable with .223 Remington or 5.56 NATO. Ammunition and compatible rifle components are more specialized, so make sure you’re looking at the correct chambering and platform.
Customize Your AR-15 Barrel
- Material and twist: Review the barrel steel and rifling twist choices for this chambering.
- Length and muzzle: The available lengths and muzzle finishes depend on the product options.
- Gas system: Check the offered gas-system lengths, gas-tube and gas-block options.
- Profile and finish: Review the barrel profile, gas-block diameter, fluting and other finishing selections.
- Related parts: Look for any matching-bolt or customer-supplied component requirements.
Before You Order
- Confirm the chambering: Order for .50 Beowulf, not another cartridge with a similar name.
- Verify the rifle: Confirm your receiver, bolt and other relevant components are appropriate for this chambering.
- Check your choices: Each barrel is made to the specifications on your order. Make sure the selected options and related parts are correct.
Barrel Options Explained
CM and SS: CM means chrome-moly steel, which needs corrosion protection. SS is stainless steel, which resists corrosion better but still needs normal maintenance. The rifling twist and steel combinations are listed with the product choices.
Twist rate: A marking such as 1:7 means one complete turn of the rifling every seven inches; it isn’t a barrel-length measurement.
Gas-system length: Pistol, carbine, mid-length, rifle and magnum name different nominal gas-system layouts. The specific options depend on the product.
What is a gas tube? In a conventional AR gas system, the gas block routes gas from the barrel through a small tube toward the action. The gas tube is separate from both the barrel and the block. Review the Add Gas Tube? option if you need one included where offered; its type corresponds to the gas-system layout.
Barrel profile: Light, SOCOM, HBAR and Bull are common names for outside barrel contours. The profile describes barrel thickness and material distribution, which affect the weight.
Gas block and mounting diameter: Measurements such as .750 and .875 identify the outside diameter of the barrel where a gas block fits, not the caliber. A block can be fixed or adjustable, depending on the product choices. If you already have your own suitable gas block, look for the None selection where offered. Diameter alone doesn’t guarantee compatibility with the entire system.
Muzzle treatments: A target crown is an unthreaded muzzle finish. Threaded muzzles have a defined thread size and pitch. Magna Port is a muzzle-porting style, while Gill Cut refers to a specialty cut pattern. Ask us to confirm which finishes apply to the barrel you are considering.
Barrel extension: The steel part at the rear of the barrel contains the locking surfaces for the bolt. It’s different from the gas block.
Fluting and finishes: Fluting refers to grooves cut into the exterior of the barrel. Cerakote and other finishes affect appearance and surface protection.

Common Questions About This Barrel
Is .50 Beowulf ammunition interchangeable with 5.56 NATO?
No. They’re completely different cartridges. Use ammunition specifically approved for the barrel’s chamber.
Do I need special related parts for this chambering?
A large-bore AR configuration can have different component requirements. Verify your complete rifle configuration with us before ordering.
