FN SCAR 16 .223 Wylde Custom Barrel
We make this FN SCAR 16 barrel with a .223 Wylde chamber. Pick your barrel steel, length, muzzle option, fluting, and Cerakote finish from the choices below.
Why .223 Wylde?
Wondering if .223 Wylde takes different ammo? It doesn’t. Wylde refers to the chamber, not a separate cartridge. The chamber is designed to accommodate both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO, two common ammunition types used with the SCAR 16. There’s no special .223 Wylde ammo to buy.
.223 Remington and 5.56 NATO may look almost identical, but their chamber specifications aren’t the same. The Wylde chamber was developed with both in mind. That’s the important difference when you’re comparing it with a barrel marked .223 Remington only.
Customize your FN SCAR 16 barrel
Here’s what you can choose when ordering this barrel:
- Barrel steel: Choose chrome-moly (CM) or stainless steel (SS). Both come with a 1:7 twist.
- Barrel length: Choose from the currently listed lengths, 10.5 through 20 inches.
- Muzzle: Target crown, 1/2×28 threads, or 5/8×24 threads.
- Fluting: Straight six-groove, spiral, diamond, or none if you want a smooth barrel. Fluting isn’t offered with every barrel profile.
- Cerakote: Choose a finish color from the available swatches, including Graphite Black, OD Green, Magpul FDE, Burnt Bronze, and others shown on the page.
- Gas block and barrel extension: Choose new components or select the type of complete barrel assembly you’re sending to Deadshot. See the explanation below before picking this option.
Before You Order
- Check your rifle: This is a .223 Wylde barrel for the FN SCAR 16.
- Double-check your choices: Barrel steel, length, muzzle finish, fluting, and Cerakote. This is a custom-made order.
- Assembly option: Choose new components or tell us which complete existing assembly you’re sending in. See below.
Barrel Options Explained
CM and SS: CM is chrome-moly steel, which needs protection from rust. SS is stainless steel. It resists corrosion better but still needs care.
Twist rate: 1:7 means one full rifling turn every seven inches. It describes the rifling, not the overall barrel length.
Target crown or muzzle threads: A target crown is an unthreaded muzzle finish. This barrel offers 1/2×28 and 5/8×24 external thread options.
Q / SIG taper (optional, no extra taper charge): Standard 5/8×24 muzzle threads typically have a flat, 90-degree shoulder behind them. The Q / SIG option uses those same threads with a 25-degree angled shoulder instead. Certain Q- and SIG-style muzzle devices and suppressor mounts are made to seat against this taper, giving the mount its intended contact surface. Why choose it? It is a fitment choice: select 5/8×24 Threads + Q/SIG Taper if your specific mount calls for a 25-degree taper, or choose standard 5/8×24 threads if it calls for a flat shoulder. The taper does not change the thread size or automatically improve accuracy. There is no extra taper charge beyond any existing threading cost. Check your mount specifications or ask Deadshot if you are unsure.
Fluting: Grooves along the outside of the barrel. Select None for a smooth barrel where offered.
Cerakote: A colored protective coating. Choose from the finishes shown above.
What Do the Gas Block and Barrel Extension Do?
Gas block: The gas block is part of the SCAR’s piston operating system. It directs a portion of the gas from a fired round into that system, while the gas regulator controls how the gas is managed.
Barrel extension: This is the steel component at the rear of the barrel where the bolt locks into place. It’s an important part of the completed barrel assembly, not just a mounting piece.
What’s Different About Deadshot’s Gas Block?
Traditional FN SCAR gas-block configurations can include a folding front sight. Our gas block has a cleaner, sleeker shape without that integrated sight, leaving you free to choose your own sight setup.
Our design retains SCAR-style adjustable gas regulation and is made for suppressed and unsuppressed use. We have tested our design with a variety of suppressors. If you have questions about a particular suppressor or handguard, reach out to us before ordering.
Gas Block and Barrel Extension: Which Option Do I Choose?
Choose the option that fits your order:
- Build with new components: We supply a new gas block and barrel extension. You don’t need to send us an assembly.
- Submit your Deadshot Barrels assembly: Send your existing Deadshot SCAR assembly intact so we can evaluate and reuse its components. No extra component charge for this option.
- Submit your FN barrel assembly: Send your original FN SCAR assembly intact so we can evaluate and reuse its components. The extra fee appears in the dropdown.
Sending an assembly? Include your invoice number and follow the shipping instructions in the acknowledgment on the order form. Leave the assembly intact.
